September 2004 - Remembering September 11th 2001
Many of us lost a loved one. They may have bee, a father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, cousin, friend, or even our hearts just went out to all the strangers that went to work that day not knowing it would be their last. For those who did not return home that day, and for the ones left behind, we want you to know you are remembered.
For all the men & women in our military that gave their life, we thank you for your bravery and believing in our country. For those of you who are still away from your families, we pray for your safe return. God bless you all and America!
August 2004 - Sorry we have no star of the month award for August 2004
July 2004 - Paul Woods
We'd like to give a big hand to someone whose volunteer work is done almost entirely behind the scenes; most of you have probably never heard of him. Paul is the unofficial Tech. Support Consultant for the Tompkins County site, and without his help over the last few years, the site would be far, far less than what it is. Paul found himself in this position not because of a genuine passion for genealogy, but because he happens to be married to the webmaster.Paul is the guy who is responsible for our fabulous search engine, the one you can use to search not only Tompkins County, but also the surrounding region, with one click of the mouse. He set it up, configured it and hosts it on one of his company's servers.
Paul has helped both Johnna and Janet through numerous computer and server-related technical difficulties, too many to mention here, and always with humor and panache. He is always available to give advice and his time, and even stopped in to help Janet with her new computer while on his vacation. Many of you have benefitted from his behind-the-scenes wisdom when you have emailed Janet or Johnna with problems. So for all his assistance over the last 3 or 4 years, and for all the help we'll undoubtedly need in the future, we'd like to award Paul this month's Star of the Month. Congratulations Paul!
June 2004 - William "Bill" Hecht

April 2004 - Juanita Griffin
We would like to thank Juanita Griffin for her help in preserving the records of the Groton Rural Cemetery, and the history of Tompkins County. Nita serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Groton Rural Cemetery Association, and she spent the fall of 2003 putting the cemetery burial records into digital format. Nita recently donated a copy of those records to us. Her work will greatly increase the burial information contained in the online Groton Rural Cemetery records. In addition to donating the burial records (as if this was not enough!), Nita also donated the records of her mother, Dorothy Ostrander, past Town of Groton Historian. This gift will yield not only additional information for current records, but new records as well, for the Town of Groton and for a portion of the Town of Lansing. Please join us in thanking Juanita for her dedication to the preservation of Tompkins County history.March 2004 - Rita Harris
We'd like to thank Rita Harris, Secretary/Treasurer of the Green Hills Cemetery Association, for her help in preserving the records of Green Hills Cemetery, located in Dryden. Every year, Rita sends us updates to the Cemetery, so that our records for this active cemetery are always as complete as possible. She also donated a wonderful history of the cemetery, much of which she wrote. Her devotion has not gone unnoticed, and we'd like to give Rita a hand for all her hard work!
Congratulations, Rita!February 2004 - Sorry we have no star of the month award for February 2004
January 2004 - Cheryl Hall

We'd like to thank John Wertis for his efforts in preserving the history of Tompkins County by donating the Grove Cemetery records in Trumansburg, Town of Ulysses for the past two years (2001 - 2002). He has even promised to send us the 2003 updates at the beginning of next year! John made it extremely easy for us by coming to us with this material, and we are doubly grateful for that. July 2003 - Melvin J. Marion
We would like to thank Melvin for all the hours he spent updating the William Pew family genealogy for the site.
William Pew was born near Schooley's Mountain, Washington Township, Morris County, March 29, 1752. He served as a private in the Revolutionary War from Morris County, NJ. He married Hannah Lacy and had five sons and a daughter Elizabeth. The sons names were John, William, Joseph, Benjamin and Richard, all of whom served in the war of 1812.
You can view this updated record of the Pew Family . Melvin and his wife also helped us locate and record a cemetery that we had not had any record of before. Melvin remembered this family plot from when he was a young boy. On on Sunday afternoon while in town for a family reunion he showed us where this cemetery was located (The Barney Merian Family Graveyard, Ithaca, Tompkins Co). At that time we recorded the headstone inscriptions and now can add another cemetery record to our lists thanks to Melvin. It is with pleasure we give Our Star of the Month Award to him. The Barney Merian Family Graveyard will be coming online soon.June 2003 - Kathleen Smith & Bessie McGuire

For those of you who do not know Johnna, she joined our team about three years ago as assistant webmaster.
It did not take long before she was made Assistant Coordinator and Webmaster of the site.
In those three short years she has shown our viewers an outstanding amount of work,
and dedication to the Tompkins Co., NYGenWeb site.
She not only is a joy to work with, but also a great friend to all and a wonderful asset to the site.
Johnna also works full time in her own business with her husband Paul, plus runs her own Armstrong family website ..
We would like to take this time to thank Johnna for all the volunteer hours she devotes to the Tompkins Co. site.
OUT STANDING JOB JOHNNA!March 2003 - Cheryl Hall
We would like to give Cheryl a big hand for the loyalty, dedication and hard work that she puts into the Tompkins County site! Despite a career with a prestigious science journal, finishing her degree, and an on-going struggle with her own "D----d Elusive Halls" or DEHs, as she lovingly refers to them, Cheryl somehow mangages to find the time to walk cemeteries, transcribe cemetery and census records, and give veterans extra special recognition in her files. Now, she has added to her repertoire of skills that of web designer and HTML coder. We don't know how she finds the time, and we don't want to ask, for fear of jinxing things! Thank you, Cheryl!February 2003 - Janet Nash
This month, we'd like to thank the best Coordinator a County could have: Janet Nash. Congratulations Janet, you are our Star of the Month! Most people probably have no idea how hard Janet works, gently but persistently persuading town officials to restore and upkeep cemeteries, and helping to restore a few herself. Although she never said much about it, Janet was heavily involved in the Yates Cemetery Project. She is a marvel at researching, preserving and transcribing records, walking cemeteries, and keeping track of all the various projects going on for this site, as well as keeping a very large group of volunteers happy and busy! She motivates us, praises us, makes us pots of coffee, and consoles us when we are frustrated with our research. She even frequently helps us out with our own research! She fights to keep our county and family histories alive, for the benefit of future generations. Janet handles every situation with grace and humor, and is a pillar of support for the site. So join us in giving Janet Nash a hand, for her huge contribution to the Tompkins County site, Tompkins county and in our research!"January 2003 - " The Tompkins Co., NYGenWeb Team "

donated supplies many times to help keep the cost down on operating our website.

feed the hungry volunteers when we all get together.
Beachy and Ruth are a joy to know and are a big part of our team.
Thank you, Beachy & RuthOctober 2002 - Dennis Whittaker

For your donation of this new cemetery listing - Kingdom Farm Cemetery- Also known as: Jehovah's Witness Cemetery
This cemetery is located on Bower Road (dirt road) off Route 34, across the highway from Kingdom Farm.

Thank you, John & Beverly !
August 2002 - Carlsa King
Carlsa has donated a wonder piece of history from her private collection to the Tompkins County site.
Reminiscences of the Patterson Family by Leon D. Palmer.
This wonderful donation is an account of the happenings of an Irish family who immigrated to the United States from about 1840 to 1900's. It brings to the site many family happenings of the people who lived in the North Lansing, Lansing, and Groton area. This truly is a great asset to the researchers of these families who lived in Tompkins Co., NY. The final touches are being done to this file and will be online soon. (111 pages, plus family group sheets)
